Design Sponge

I’m trying to dream this into reality. I suppose it’s not the specific things in these images that I like. I think it’s that they fit into what we’re able to build. And that they’re light filled. And practical and multifunctional. I hope it’s not all vanity. It’s more about finding what brings light and peace and joy and home. It’s small so we need to get creative about how to fit what we need, comfortably.

Recently, Tim added a window and exchanged the french doors with a single glass door so that we could have this breakfast nook. We’ll be able to see the whole yard, the gate, the maple tree, the garden, the future labyrinth and the great trees out the back. Yeah!!

As soon as the septic is done, we can choose a spot for the compost bins and the labyrinth… can’t wait! Oh yeah, we can get seed for the lawn… camomile or clover?? definately not grass. There will be no mowing!

potting herbs

Well we just had to try this.  Save and clean egg shells, add dirt and seeds, sprout, and crack egg and plant.  Easy.  The only hard part is where to put them.  I have them sitting on the dash board.  The kids have full access so we’ll see how long this lasts.

Rory was chattering away about the eggs as we finished the parade to the dashboard (while singing ‘for they’re the jolly good fellows).  It took me a moment but I realized that she thinks these will hatch into chicks.  I feel like I’m messing with her mind, using the egg shells to grow something new.  But they’re so cute.  I can’t wait for them to sprout.

we stop for lambs

Wasn’t it thoughtful of the Grays to herd the four momma sheep and their lambs into the pen near the road!  There’s black lambs up South Road too.  Domesticated animals are so much easier to photograph.  These little lambs barely looked up when I stopped the car next to them and walked up to the gate.  But did I have the patience to wait until at least one of them looked up? no. boo.

the shed and the garden

Here they are!  Didn’t husband guy do a fantastic job!

the shed and the garden

I really love the cedar siding and wish we could afford it for the house, oh well.    I hope to match some cedar trim on the house, at some point down the line.  The garden seems too small already, it’s filled with some shrubs in pots that the deer have previously nipped, some leeks, misc flowers and a new rose bush.  I want herbs in more pots and Tim is going to grow tomatoes (cherry and beef steak), spinach, garlic, carrots, potatoes, giant leeks, cucumber, zucchini, pole beans, peppers, sunflowers… I’m sure there’s more!

The Garden

We already have above ground plants!!  Our neighbour was pulling leeks and popped some over the fence for us, yay.  So far spinach and flower seeds have been planted… still working out rows and paths, etc.
